Ware River Club
Cathedral
(CD)
Melodic and muscular, Cathedral houses more fine alt. country roots rock from New England's Ware River Club. Primary songwriter Matt Hebert's meditations on doubt, small town woes and minor triumphs are handily supported by smart arrangements and fiery guitar work. Radiant inflections of mandolin light up tracks like #4, as do stunning harmonies led by Hebert's engagingly hoarse vocals. His aching refrains, like "We're all gonna die some day" and "If you look inside/you might find my broken light shining" manage to be as catchy as they are cutting when stretched across these well-crafted tunes. 2004 also finds Ware River Club contributing "I Love Her, She Loves Me" to Q People, the fantastic tribute to NRBQ. This enhanced CD features a video for the single "Broken Light", live footage, and interviews. (Spirithouse)
